About this Piece

A cycle of three chamber operas (with the titles Heron and the salmon girl, Rushing upriver, and Every river has its people, each 30’ in duration), setting libretti by Irene Keliher, inspired by stories from the Salish and Yakama nations and three Pacific Northwest ecosystems (maritime sound, inland river, and mountain watershed), scored for orchestra (Fl Ob Cl Bn – Cel Vib Mar Hp – 12. 10. 8. 4. 2.), four soloists, and children’s chorus.  This cycle was commissioned by Seattle Opera and Seattle Youth Symphony, and was premiered in February, April, and August of 2013.  It was remounted by Seattle Symphony in May 2014
